Nilsiänkatu 8, Vallila

presented by Mental Alaska

The third annual Lal Lal Lal Festival represents bands that are somehow related to the Finnish experimental label Lal Lal Lal. Because the label is about to be closed, this is propably the last Lal Lal Lal Festival, and some kind of beginning of the label's slow burial. That means super discounts of the records during the Festival! In the future the Lal Lal Lal people will continue actively confusing and amusing the experimental music scene with other happenings and a new label. The live music will be performed in the Ilmi Ö-theatre space that is located in the same building. Enter through the Teatteri Ilmi Ö door at Nilsiänkatu 8.

The bands performing this year are:

Astral Social Club
Neil Campbell (UK) has been a very active and creative artist in the British noise scene since the 80s. His bands, A BAND and VIBRACATHEDRAL ORCHESTRA among others, have also been a huge influence for many modern explorators of psychedelic drones and free music. With ASC he creates a beautiful chaos, a hyperactive mix of bright drones, pulses, glitches and beats in thousands of layers. Campbell released his Sol Powr LP as one of the first Lal Lal Lal releases. Ever since that he's been a highly expected guest. Lal Lal Lal is finally honoured to have him play for the first time in Finland!

Fricara Pacchu
FP is the solo project of Kevin Regan (Avarus, Maniacs Dream). He has produced four miraculous tapes, two 7"s and a cd full of always fascinating and totally unique instrumental music. On the records, his music has moved between warm monotonic rock jams and post-apocalyptic digital nightmares. This time, Fricara plays live for the second time ever. His first performance was a mindblowing blast of raw and personal lyrics and catchy synth songs composed only for that particular show. For this gig, Fricara is bringing a totally different concept and songs.

Semimuumio
SM is Jaakko Tolvi's (Rauhanorkesteri, Lauhkeat Lampaat, Taco Bells, Pymathon...) humoristical solo project. He released a "techno" CD on Lal Lal Lal a couple of years ago. Lately he has been recording songs with a pop instrumentation and lyrics as SEMIBAND. Be it free jazz, techno, AOR or a Hill Street Blues sound-a-like, Jaakko's delicate taste of humour is always present. Lal Lal Lal festival presents the Semimuumio's first gig ever!

Suohumala
SH is a solo project of the visionary painter Antti Silvekoski. Suohumala has been on the Lal Lal Lal release schedule for a while, and will be released on a future label. So far he has released a few demo CD-Rs. Suohumala plays mind melting space rock with monotonic drumming, spaced out guitar and weird sounds. His live sets are very rare. Antti is also partly responsible for the light show of the festival! His psychedelic light projection group Valovirhee will take care of the visual brain massage of the festival.

Pylon
Pylon is the duo of Roope Eronen and Tero Niskanen (Avarus, Maniacs Dream, Lal Lal Lal...). Pylon is where the label started, so it's a great closure (with Neil Campbell) for the circle of Lal Lal Lal. Pylon recorded four CD-R albums and a 7" full of crazed basement experiments in 2000. After that Pylon has only existed as a live / performance group, doing shows only once a year or two. Pylon has been changing their concept every time so far, having done silly things like waterfall-clocks, peeing sounds and karaoke animals. This time, for a change, Pylon will concentrate on music, playing a fruit short circuit and guitar duo.
